Taylor Swift’s ex Matty Healy threatens to ‘beat’ Azealia Banks in heated exchange

Matty Healy and Azealia Banks kept the excitement rolling on X with another fiery back-and-forth on Tuesday, proving they’ve truly mastered the art of unhinged social media warfare.

The drama unfolded when Banks criticized Charli XCX, commenting ‘Charli used to be sooo beautiful. Oh.’

Healy, whose bandmate George Daniel is engaged to Charli, hit back with a scathing reply: ‘All the women you attack seem to be culturally relevant, attractive, divisive and NEED people. I think it makes you jealous because you are so talented but everything else about you is a failure. Just rap bro.’

After Banks compared Healy to Frankenstein, things quickly escalated.

Taylor Swift’s ex initially bragged about wanting to ‘beat’ Banks and delivered a wildly dramatic threat: ‘I’m gonna fucking beat you so hard I get a Guinness World Record for the highest rat a bitch calls a wig has ever flown.’

Recognizing the inappropriate nature of his outburst, Healy quickly backtracked, apologizing: ‘Nah, I can’t say I’m hitting on a girl who’s crazy, sorry. You just can’t keep being so mean to my mates and my wife, it really hurts and puts me on the defensive.’

He subsequently deleted the threatening tweet and acknowledged that it was ‘not cool, even though I was angry.’

This latest clash follows their previous confrontation, when Healy initially responded to Banks’ criticism of Charli XCX’s SNL performance earlier this month.

When Banks accused Charli of doing a ‘lazy’ rendition of Ciara’s 1, 2 Step, Healy shot back: ‘Shut up you f****** ****. Being more annoying than me is actually impressive.’

Fans will no doubt remember Azealia’s fiery tirade against Swift’s ex-boyfriend back in May 2023.

This was around the same time that Swift and Healy were romantically linked, shortly after Swift’s split from Joe Alwyn.

Taylor and Matty were seen holding hands and kissing in New York City.

Despite their initial chemistry and public outings, their relationship was brief, lasting only about a month before splitting in June 2023.

Azeala’s attack on Healy appeared to be inspired by Healy’s apparently racist comments he made about rapper Ice Spice during an appearance on Adam Friedland Podcast.

Banks shared a photo of Healy on stage with her arms outstretched and a caption referencing his onstage apology for his comments about Ice Spice as she berated him in her lyrics.

‘Does Matt Healy know that no one actually thinks the 1975 makes good music,’ she wrote, despite the band’s last four albums charting in the top 10 on the Billboard 200 album charts, ‘and that he’s a lame poser with a trashy cliche band name that doesn’t actually mean anything and he’s clearly so pumped that a black girl who knows nothing about him or his music is making more moves and money than him,” wrote hun, apparently referring to Ice Spice, 23.

She went on to boast that ‘black women are more desirable in today’s industry because there is BIG BUSINESS in female rap (sic).’

“He’s so obviously weak in the knees, thin-jawed and a drug addict that it’s easy to catch his crusty lack,” she added.

She suggested that Healy was doing the ‘little white opinionated male musician thing’, but claimed that only musician Ariel Pink – who attended a pro-Trump rally in Washington, DC before the January 6 uprising – could get away with it.

She also claimed that The 1975 is derived from 2000s era band The Academy Is… and Death From Above 1979.

However, she said the Healy band would ‘never’ achieve that band’s artistic success because he’s ‘not a star’ or ‘good at whatever shit** mid-2000s indie pitchfork darling fantasy you’re trying to sell’.

She ended the post by praising Ice Spice for having ‘MILES more originality than you’ll ever want’.

“1975 is on nobody’s radar babe,” she added wryly, before claiming that only “cool emo teenagers” would listen to Healy’s music.

In another text post, she simply wrote: ‘Matt Healy is a pin away from tetanus.’

Banks then included a blank screen in her Insta Stories with an audio post calling herself a ‘really big music connoisseur.’

She said that she first heard The 1975 and thought the band’s name was ‘cliché’ and ‘corny’ and she assumed the music would be ‘manufactured bulls***’ that fit her feelings about several ‘ boy bands’ in the late 2000s and 2010s.

She concluded by saying that her lack of knowledge of the band’s music indicated that it was not good and was not popular.

Banks included a series of insults about Healy and his looks, urging him to eat some vegetables and wash his hair, ending by calling him a ‘fake-a** Pete Doherty.’

The same audio post also contained a text post unrelated to her narrative.

The 212 rapper referred to Taylor Swift and her nether regions in offensive sexual terms, while calling Healy a ‘full incel’ and writing that he was not worthy of her.

Then she suggested that Swift instead date James Mercer, the leader and songwriter of the popular indie rock band The Shins, who has apparently only been included because Banks is a fan of his music and because The Shins and The 1975 both mostly indie rock bands.

Banks’ comments echo those of many of Swift’s fans, who have honed in on offensive statements made by Healy in recent years.

Although he received backlash at the time, Healy’s comments on The Adam Friedland Show in February gained new attention after he began dating Swift and appeared at her Era Tour concerts.

During his performance, Healy claimed he tried to send a message to rapper Ice Spice on Instagram.

Along with Friedland and his co-host, comedian Nick Mullen, Healy appeared to confuse her heritage by referring to her as Inuit and Chinese, mimicking and mocking the stereotypical accents of each ethnicity.

The podcast episode was later pulled from both Spotify and Apple Music due to its offensive content.
