Rain and storms overnight: Timing and what to expect: The Alabama Weather Blog

We are finally starting to cool down towards the end of this week! Temperatures in the latter half of the week will drop into the lower 60s, with overnight lows dropping into the 30s. Before we feel these cooler temperatures, however, we will have a series of showers as the cold front moves across the state.

Right now we are only seeing rain in a few counties in south central AL. The latest model runs show the bulk of the rain entering the state between 2-3 a.m., while the rest of the line continues to work its way into Alabama through the early morning hours. Here is a snapshot of the HRRR model at 6 tomorrow:

Rain and storms overnight: Timing and what to expect: The Alabama Weather Blog

We expect the northern third of the state to be mostly clear by early afternoon. Showers will linger throughout the day in central and south Alabama, with clearing expected to occur late tomorrow night.

Central Alabama will receive the most rainfall, with some areas expected to receive over 2 inches of rain. About 1.5 inches of rain could fall in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa.

There is a potential for strong to severe storms tomorrow, with most of the risk toward the southeast corner of the state. The main concern will be strong wind gusts, but a spin up tornado is also possible. Stay alert throughout the day tomorrow and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts.

We will be updating throughout this event, including any severe thunderstorm/tornado warnings issued by the NWS.
