Exclusive images from Universal Orlando

Wand ready! Universal Orlando Resort is giving its first in-depth look at the brand new addition to the Wizarding World.

On Tuesday, Nov. 19, Universal revealed a series of new images from the upcoming “Harry Potter and the Battle of the Ministry” thrill ride — including two images you can see only at PEOPLE.

The ride will be the centerpiece of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, one of five lands opening in May 2025 as part of Universal Orlando’s much-hyped third theme park, Epic Universe.

The Battle of the Ministry attraction incorporates an all-new story set inside the headquarters of government for the British wizarding world, the Ministry of Magic, whose towering green tiled walls, golden statues and unwieldy elevators fans will recognize from the books and films.

Access to the Ministry requires a trip via the Métro-Floo (a system similar to the film’s Floo network) that will transport guests from the new theme park land, which was the main setting of 1920s Wizarding Paris, directly into the British Ministry circa 1990 ‘ers.

Inside, they’ll be just in time to attend “the long-awaited trial of the infamous Dolores Umbridge,” according to Universal.

When Umbridge (spoiler!) escapes in the middle of the trial, Harry, Ron, Hermione and a house-elf named Higgledy will join riders for “a thrilling chase that will propel them up, down, forward, backwards, sideways and more throughout the Ministry” as they try to avoid dementors and other magical dangers.

The new images show more detail than ever before about what riders can expect from their visit to the ministry.

Metro-Floo, with its barrel-vaulted ceilings and rows of human-sized fireplaces, is clearly part of the queue, with cut-off areas for rows of riders to weave through. The details of the magical mode of transportation are still a mystery. It may involve some special effects (similar to the trick in the queue for the park’s Hogwarts Express) or may simply be a familiar passage (like the brick wall behind its Leaky Cauldron).

The ministry’s soaring atrium looks like a movie set, with shiny green tiled walls and rows of windowed offices cantilevered overhead.

The photos show a Ministry reception, framed by gold “M” logos on the walls, as well as the Fountain of Magical Brethren, which has golden statues of a witch, a centaur, a goblin and a house elf. (The latter appears to be just visible behind the witch’s skirt in the new image.)

In an exclusive PEOPLE photo (top), the atrium’s massive wizard statue is also visible, wand raised in one hand. Book readers will remember that these characters played a significant role in another battle in the Ministry between Voldemort and Dumbledore.

A new addition to the lobby is the massive banner featuring an undeniably moving image of Dolores Umbridge in her Azkaban stripes. It states that she is “on trial today” and instructs visitors to go to courtroom 10.

Elsewhere, a special edition of the Daily Prophet declares “Umbridge stands trial today.” An unopened interdepartmental memo (shaped into a paper airplane to zoom around the ministry) sits on top of the newspaper.

The new photos also give a glimpse into Umbridge’s bright pink office. In an exclusive PEOPLE photo, the gilded relief around the ceiling is revealed to feature wizards and dragons, as well as the Ministry “M” in a gold emblem.

A close-up of the ride’s new character is also from the same room: Higgledy, the house-elf is perched atop a stack of files with a quill, looking at a clipboard not unlike something Umbridge has used. She also wears what may be the witch’s ring and shoes. Another detail shot of her perch shows that the pink folders are “case files”.

Umbridge’s desk and other views of the room are conspicuously absent from the images, possibly because they contain ride spoilers.

A few other images tease additional areas of the ministry the tour will likely take visitors.

One shows a sign for the Department of Magical Creatures, while another shows a display case with clocks surrounded by black tiles. This is undoubtedly the Time Room inside the Department of Mysteries, a room frequented in the books adjacent to the more famous Hall of Prophecy. In addition to clocks of all types, it contains time turners used for time travel in the wizarding world.

Finally, Universal released a new image of the actual driving vehicle.

The photo shows a setup for about 10 guests to sit in two rows of tufted red leather seats. It is similar to the arrangements of Disney’s classic “Tower of Terror” ride.

While Universal hasn’t revealed exactly what type of ride Battle of the Ministry will be, an earlier rendering showed the box of seats suspended in the air and tilting at an angle that suggested its movement may be similar to Escape from Gringotts at Universal Studios’ Diagon Alley.

Universal previously confirmed plenty of other details about the new Harry Potter land in July when they first announced Epic Universe’s opening date.

The resort teased at the time that the park will incorporate settings and stories from the spinoff Fantastic beasts film. Part of the country will be set in 1920s wizarding Paris – specifically Place Cachée, Paris’ version of Diagon Alley – as well as 1990s wizarding London, where much of the original series takes place.

In the French section, visitors will be able to enjoy snacks and buy souvenirs from shops such as Cosme Acajor Baguettes Magique, the equivalent of Ollivander’s wand shop; a candy shop called K. Rammelle; as well as gift shops such as Les Galeries Mirifiques and Tour En Floo.

Illustrations also showed carts selling butterbeer, or as French wizards call it, Bièraubeurre.

Café L’Air De La Sirène – featured in Universal’s pictures with classic French interior design – will serve as the area’s sit-down restaurant, serving monster-themed eggs and other treats.

Universal also shared views on the wizarding world’s first live theater production titled “Le Cirque Arcanus.” Originally from The Crimes of Grindelwald, the performance takes place in a magical circus that includes acrobatics, actors, puppets and special effects.

Renderings show dancers, aerialists and more performing to a packed house, completely set up like a period circus performance.

This new Harry Potter land will offer visitors “an awe-inspiring collection of experiences that include fantastic dining, whimsical retail and spellbinding entertainment,” Universal said in a press release in July.

Ministry of Magic will be the third Harry Potter-themed land at Universal Orlando Resort, as the park is already home to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade at Universal Islands of Adventure, which opened in 2010, and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley at Universal Studios, which opened in 2014.

Also coming to Epic Universe are SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, Dark Universe, Celestial Park and more.
