AR Rahman's wife Saira Banu announces divorce; lawyer issues official statement

AR Rahman’s wife Saira has announced that she and the music maestro are separating. Saira’s lawyer, Vandana Shahshared an official statement about their decision to split.
“After many years of marriage, Ms. Saira has taken the difficult decision to divorce her husband, Mr. AR Rahman. This decision comes after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple have found that the tensions and difficulties have created an unbridgeable gap between them, which neither party feels able to bridge at this time. Ms. Saira emphasized that she has taken this decision out of pain and agony. Ms. Saira requests the privacy and understanding of the public during this challenging time as she navigates this difficult chapter in her life,” the statement read.

Rahman married Saira in 1995 in an arranged marriage. During a conversation with Simi Garewal on her talk show, Rahman said that his mother arranged the marriage as he had no time to search for a bride himself. Rahman said, “To be honest, I didn’t have time to search for a bride. I was busy with films, including Rangeela in Bombay. But I knew it was the right time to get married. I was 29 and told my mother: ‘Find me a bride’.”
Rahman also mentioned that he asked his mother to find him a “simple” woman who would not cause him much trouble so that he could focus on his music and hope that she would inspire him. The two, who were married in 1995, are the parents of three children: KhatijaRaheema and Amen.
On the work front, Rahman’s latest project was Dhanush’s second film as director, Raayan. He will also appear in upcoming films like Chhaava, Thug Life, Gandhi Talks and several others in various languages.
