The fight for no. 1 is theirs to lose

EAST RUTHERFORD – A painful means to a necessary end.

That’s what New York Giants face the current circumstances of Sunday’s home finale against the Indianapolis Colts and the prospects for a future with their selection of a franchise quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The result of the game is crucial on both fronts.

Right now, the Giants are no. 1, and they are in control of that spot as the only two-win team in the NFL.

Their 10th straight loss set up the Giants to claim the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft last week.

What that means for the regime led by coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen remains to be seen, with owners John Mara and Steve Tisch only knowing the answer to that.

But those are the giants currently expected to hold no. 1 pick, according to Tankathon.comnow a game ahead of the Las Vegas Raiders, who last Sunday pulled off their third win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

If the Giants are able to beat the Colts (7-8) and avoid the first 0-9 record at home in NFL history — the schedule added a ninth home game in 2021 — their draft prospects would take a nosedive.

If the Giants lose their final two games, they are guaranteed to finish with the No. 1 pick in next April’s draft.

Watch for updates throughout the day.
