Texas WR expected to play Arizona State

game

Texas football is expected to return a major weapon in its quest for its first national championship since the 2005 college football season.

Ahead of Wednesday’s College Football Playoff quarterfinal game between No. 5 Longhorn (12-2) and no. 4 Arizona State (11-2), wide receiver Isaiah Bond warmed up and is expected to play, as reported by ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Bond, an Alabama transfer, has 33 receptions, 532 yards and five touchdowns in his first season with the Longhorns. Bond gives quarterback Quinn Ewers and the Texas offense a deep-play threat as he averages 16.1 yards per carry.

Here’s the latest on Bond’s injury:

Isaiah Bond injury update

Bond was seen warming up ahead of Texas’ quarterfinal matchup with Arizona State. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported before the game that the Longhorns receiver was expected to play Wednesday.

Bond missed the Longhorns’ first-round win over Clemson because of his ankle injury in the Dec. 7 SEC championship game against Georgia. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian had confirmed that Bond practiced ahead of Wednesday’s Peach Bowl with his ankle injury.

The junior receiver had 48 catches for 668 yards and four touchdowns last season for the Crimson Tide, including a clutch catch to seal Alabama’s miracle victory over Auburn in the Iron Bowl to clinch a berth in the SEC Championship.
