World no. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler has withdrawn from the PGA Tour’s 2025 season-opening tournament after puncturing his hand while preparing Christmas dinner.

Yes, it actually happened.

His manager, Blake Smith, said Friday that small fragments of glass remained in the palm of his hand, necessitating surgery to prevent further complications.

“On Christmas Day, while preparing dinner, Scottie sustained a puncture wound in the palm of his right hand from a broken glass,” Smith said, according to multiple reports. “Small fragments of glass were left in the palm, requiring surgery.”

Scheffler will therefore miss The Sentry, which takes place in Hawaii from 2-5. January.

He is expected to make a full recovery in three to four weeks and aims to return to the American Express tournament on Jan. 16 in La Quinta, Calif., according to Smith.

He will be looking to defend his Masters title after winning it for the second time last year.
