No. 1 golfer injured while cooking Christmas dinner misses start of PGA season

The 2025 PGA Tour season begins without its top player.

The PGA Tour announced On Friday, the world no. 1 Scottie Scheffler withdrew from The Sentry, which will take place at the Plantation Course in Kapalua, Maui 2-5. January.

“On Christmas Day, while preparing dinner, Scottie sustained a puncture wound to his right hand from a broken glass,” his manager Blake Smith said in a statement.

“Small fragments of glass were left in the palm of the hand, which required surgery. He has been told he should be back to 100 percent in three to four weeks.”

Scheffler won seven tournaments including the Players and Masters en route to becoming the 2024 FedEx Cup Champion. He also won an Olympic gold medal in Paris and was named PGA Player of the Year for the third consecutive year.

Scheffler’s success continued with his six-shot victory at Tiger Woods’ Hero World Challenge earlier this month.

Scheffler’s next scheduled start is at The American Express 16-19. January.

The complete field for The Sentry, which features players who won tournaments in 2024 and Tour Championship qualifiers, will be announced on Friday.
