Ballerina is the first feature film spin-off film set in John Wick universe, following the spin-off series Continental. The upcoming film stars Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro, a ballerina trained to be an assassin hoping to avenge the death of her family.

The film is set after the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellumwith Macarro seeking revenge on the people who killed her family. They will see Keanu Reeves’ John Wick return, as confirmed by the trailer, although the extent of his role in the film remains unknown.

Ballerina marks the fifth John Wick film, and the first since the 2023s John Wick: Chapter 4. In a four star review of John Wick: Chapter 4 before NMEwrote Jesse Hassenger: “Chapter 4 doesn’t exude the wheel-spinning cynicism of a perennial franchise. Stahelski may traffic in excess, but at least he gets it: how choreography, performance and style can make over-the-top spectacle coalesce into pleasantly overwhelming action rushes, instead of congealing into a sweaty overload of special effects. He also gets that after 169 minutes some degree of closure is appreciated. There may well be one Chapter 5 but Chapter 4 it still feels like a movie that gives it its all.”

For now, Reeves voices Shadow’s character Sonic the Hedgehog 3 along with Ben Schwartz, Idris Elba and Jim Carrey. A fourth film in the franchise has recently been confirmed and will be released sometime in the spring of 2027.
