Paul Finebaum identifies defense as the key factor in Notre Dame beating Indiana

The in-state matchup between Notre Dame and Indiana is a great way to start the College Football Playoff.

There is one aspect that will be the difference for i no. 7 Notre Dame vs. no. 10 Indiana in the opening game of the College Football Playoff, according to Paul Finebaum.

Finebaum quickly broke the tie between the Fighting Irish and the Hoosiers while on ‘Get Up’ Friday. First, he went with Notre Dame in their important game since last in the 2020 playoffs.

“I like Notre Dame,” Finebaum said on a panel this morning on ESPN. “I remember when Notre Dame didn’t even play bowl games. That’s why it’s so important if you’re a little bit older than EJ (Manuel).

Again, there’s a lot to watch in this in-state matchup between programs separated by three and a half hours, but the two who haven’t met in over three decades. That includes the weather tonight, which is set for snow with temperatures of 35° or below today on campus.

“There are so many factors in this game, including snow on the ground right now in South Bend,” Finebaum said. “I don’t think it’s going to have a big factor at either northern school.

“For me, Notre Dame’s defense will be the difference.”
