Marcus Rashford: Man Utd forward’s current situation discussed by Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher and Jamie Redknapp | Football news

Sky Sports pundits Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher and Jamie Redknapp have weighed in on Marcus Rashford’s current situation at Man Utd after the forward was again left out of Ruben Amorim’s squad to face Tottenham in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Thursday.

It was the second game in a row the 27-year-old had not been involved, having been absent from Sunday’s 2-1 Manchester derby win at the Etihad Stadium.

Rashford’s exclusion from the squad comes after Rashford admitted he was “ready for a new challenge” in an interview with journalist Henry Winter.

Neville, Carragher and Redknapp discussed the situation live Sky Sports Thursday night – here’s what they said…

Gary Neville reacts to Marcus Rashford’s interview saying he wants to leave Manchester United as well as his omission from their squad against Tottenham

Gary Neville:

“Maybe it’s been emotions over the last few months that have tried to make me believe that it could all sort itself out and sort itself out, because I don’t think academy players who have a great talent like Marcus Rashford, should ever leave the club.

“It’s one of those things you want to see players who have been there since they were eight stay there forever. But in the last few days it’s gotten to a point where it might be best for both parties that it will end – and perhaps end quite quickly if it has to go this way.

“Who knows? It could work itself out. Ruben Amorim is saying the right things, but I suspect behind the scenes it’s going to be quite difficult now.

Discussing Marcus Rashford’s future at Man United with Sky Sports News, Gary Lineker mentioned that sometimes parting ways are necessary, although he is unsure if that time has come

“It’s twice he hasn’t been in the squad now. He’s one of Manchester United’s star players and has been for a number of years. Actions speak louder than words. While Amorim says there is a future, he has him not in the squad either, so it’s not going that well at all.

“It’s sad because United had an incredible win on Sunday and yet snatched defeat from victory because the talk a few days after is about this and not actually about the fact that Ruben Amorim has got a sensational win under his belt.”

Jamie Redknapp and Jamie Carragher discuss Marcus Rashford’s decision to release a statement on his future at Manchester United

Sky Sports’ Jamie Carragher:

“I feel like I’ve been talking about Marcus Rashford for the last week and I’ve said before that he’s not that good of a player at the time we’re talking about him. Wayne Rooney was, David Beckham was, It was Cristiano Ronaldo.

“I’m not in favor of any player coming out and being critical of the club, but Rashford doing it, coming out without the club having any knowledge of it and just announcing that he’s basically put in a transfer request , or that he wants to leave the club, which leaves the club in a really bad position in terms of negotiating his exit at some point.

“If he really believes he still wants to be a Manchester United player and he still wants to have a great career, you don’t come out with a statement like that. You keep your mouth shut, you fight and you hope you get a small chance.

“People keep talking about 30 goals, which is a really big number. It’s not out of this world. We’re looking at some players now, they have better numbers than that and he’s at Manchester United, a top team, that dominates a lot. of games.

“Manchester United should have a player every season who scores 30 goals. If they have to play 55 to 60 games, if you have a player who can’t get 30 goals, he probably shouldn’t be at Manchester United. .”

Redknapp: Rashford has done Amorim a favor by showing his cards early

Sky Sports’ Jamie Redknapp:

“In a way he’s done Amorim a favour. He’s shown him his cards very early which doesn’t always help from a negotiating point of view because if Marcus Rashford leaves, the fact that he wants to leave doesn’t help when you want have money in.

Marcus Rashford revealed to journalist Henry Winter when asked about his future at Man Utd that he is ‘ready for a new challenge and the next steps.’

“I don’t think Amorim came in with preconceived ideas. Rashford started against Ipswich in his first game, he scored and a few people said ‘well, maybe he can be No. 9 for Manchester United”.

“But what Amorim is comfortable with that we’re not is watching him every day, watching how he trains, watching how he lives his life, watching how he behaves in and around the dressing room, watching what kind of role model he is for players – and he obviously doesn’t think he’s the right person he wants around him.

“You don’t leave a big player that you want in your team out of a derby game. That’s just not what you do. You want all the good players next to you. If he doesn’t buy into what Ruben Amorim wants is profit So the best thing for Marcus will probably be now, he said himself, to leave.

Teddy Draper is joined by journalist Henry Winter and the Daily Mail’s Riath Al-Samarrai to discuss which clubs Marcus Rashford could sign for after the Manchester United star dropped transfer hints.

“Does that mean he can’t stay? Of course he can. In 2010 it was Wayne Rooney who sent in a transfer request and 48 hours later he signed a new contract. He’s not playing at the level of Wayne Rooney, granted, but there is always a way back, but we know that he has to change.

“Form is one thing. Anyone can have bad spells but I think what would be worrying for a club would be his attitude on the pitch. We saw that last year at times where there would be times where he just wasn’t driving, and that’s my biggest fear for him.

“Somehow he’s got to fall in love with football again. You’ve got to love the game. You’re incredibly lucky to be playing at this level. It’s actually a sad situation to see because there’s no doubt that he has talent but somehow he’s had to fall in love with the game and enjoy it because at the moment it looks like he’s playing football under duress.”
