First Alert Meteorologists have declared today a First Alert Weather Day. Snow totals will range from about an inch across southern Wisconsin to as much as 6 or 7 inches north and northeast of Madison. Winds will pick up this afternoon and into the evening, creating hazardous travel conditions. Snow-covered roads and reduced visibility are expected.

What’s coming…

The ridge system that will cause the snowfall will leave the east overnight. The snow will taper off after midnight and end around dawn. In the afternoon, the clouds will break and sunshine will return.

Looking ahead…

Temperatures are expected to turn colder at the end of the week and into the weekend. Highs Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be in the 20s. A slow warming trend is on the way early next week. High temperatures will return to the 30s Tuesday and Christmas Day. With some clouds lingering into next week, there’s a fair chance there will still be snow on the ground by Christmas morning.
