Star Wars fans still want more on Disney+, data suggests

Despite what you may have heard online, Star Wars is not dead. Not only that, but audiences aren’t giving up on coming back for new Disney+ Star Wars shows as much as you might think. And there is data to prove it.

According to Parrot Analytics, demand for Star Wars TV shows on Disney+ has been relatively stable over time. The same can’t be said for Marvel, which has massively scaled back its output over the past few years — if we’re talking audience fatigue, the MCU might actually be the place to find it.

However, that doesn’t seem to be the case when it comes to Star Wars. Despite Marvel and Star Wars shows making up a very small percentage of the content available on Disney+, Q2 2024 data suggests a large percentage of demand relative to how much other content there is to watch on the platform.

Which means, for our purposes, that people don’t get tired of Star Wars at all. Star Wars fans keep coming back for more, even though some claim they’re “done” with it. Which really makes you wonder how much of the Star Wars criticism you hear on the internet is a true reflection of people’s feelings — whether they show up to see Star Wars or not.

There will always be moments when we ask Star Wars to do better. Times when it didn’t live up to our expectations and we’re prompted to wonder where things might be going. But just because Star Wars isn’t perfect doesn’t mean many of us plan to give it up. Each new Star Wars show brings something new to the franchise, and there’s nothing wrong with sticking around to see what it looks like.

Often we want Star Wars to be the best it can be because we love it. If a show doesn’t work for us, who knows? The next one might end up being the best we’ve seen yet.
