Ryan Kelly, Jaylon Carlies designated to return to practice; Josh Down’s injury update

The Colts opened the 21-day practice windows for center Ryan Kelly and linebacker Jaylon Carlies on Wednesday, head coach Shane Steichen said.

Both players are eligible to participate in practice starting Wednesday, and Kelly and/or Carlies could be activated from injured reserve at any point in the next three weeks.

Kelly was placed on injured reserve on Nov. 5 with a knee injury. The 31-year-old Kelly — the longest tenured member of the Colts and a four-time Pro Bowler — has started seven games in 2024, allowing just one sack in 222 pass-blocking snaps, per Pro Football Focus.

Carlies, a 2024 fifth-round pick, suffered a fibula injury in Week 7 and was placed on injured reserve Oct. 26. Over seven games (three starts), Carlies has 21 tackles, a tackle for a loss, a sack and a pass breakup.

Kelly was listed as a limited participant, while Carlies participated fully in Wednesday’s practice.

Wide receiver Josh Downs, who missed the Colts’ Week 13 win over the New England Patriots with a shoulder injury, was limited Wednesday. Downs, despite missing three games this season, leads the Colts with 53 receptions and is second in catches (78), yards (594) and touchdowns (four).
