NJ Weather: Light snow, ice, could snarl morning commute in part of state

Snowfall and freezing rain are coming to northern parts of New Jersey Sunday night into Monday morning, giving drivers a difficult commute as they return to work, according to the National Weather Service.

“Plan for slick road conditions. The hazardous conditions could affect the Monday morning commute,” the weather service warned.

ONE winter weather advice was issued early Sunday morning for Warren, Sussex, Morris and part of Hunterdon counties. The weather advisory starts at 10pm on Sunday and runs until Monday at 9am in Sussex.

The outlook calls for up to an inch of snow and a tenth to a quarter of an inch of ice.

Precipitation will begin as snow, possibly mixed with sleet and freezing rain, on Sunday night before turning to rain on Monday morning, the weather service said.

So allow extra time and drive carefully as you go to work on Monday. The weather service recommends checking 511NJ.org for road conditions in your area.

Temperatures in New Jersey are expected to rise Sunday into the lower 40s, then drop to freezing overnight. Look for a rainy Monday with highs in the 40s to low 50s.
