Penn State 18-17: A kill by Andi Jackson and error by Penn State pull Nebraska within a point and the Nittany Lions call timeout.

Penn State 15-12: Don’t blink in this one, you might miss a lead change. From the opening serve, one team would take a one-point lead and the other would hold the tie. This continues until Camryn Hannah has a pair of kills to give Penn State a two point lead. Caroline Jurevicius extends it to three points with her 17th kill of the match. Nebraska calls timeout.

Just the stats: It was not a good hitting set for either team. Penn State is still hitting under .100 and Nebraska is under .200. Caroline Jurevicius leads all hitters with 13 kills. Andi Jackson leads Nebraska with eight kills and is hitting .727. Harper Murray also has eight kills.

Penn State 25-22: Jurevicius ends Nebraska’s mini streak with her 13th kill. A hitting error by Nebraska puts Penn State two points away from the set, but a kill by Jackson closes the gap. A serving error gives Penn State set point. Jackson extends the game with a kill. But that’s over with Camryn Hannah’s killing in the Nebraska block. Penn State leads the game 2-1. Each set is won on the same side of the net.

Penn State 21-10: The Huskers pull within one after kills from Murray and Jackson. Penn State timeout.

Penn State 21-18: Jurevicius adds to her kill with a gentle thought over the Nebraska block. Huskers call timeout.

Penn State 19-16: Penn State takes a 13-9 lead on a Mendelson/Jurevicius layup by Murray. They extend the lead to four points on a block by Starck/Taylor. Nebraska pulls within two, 17-15, thanks to some great defense, but a service error extends Penn State’s lead.

Penn State 10-8: Nebraska jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but the Nittany Lions combined some timely hitting with Huskers errors to pull even. The teams trade kills, blocks and fouls as neither team led by more than a point before a pair of blocks by Trammell/Jurevicius and Trammell/Mruzik give the Nittany Lions a two point lead. Nebraska calls timeout.

Just the stats: Penn State’s Caroline Jurevicius leads all hitters with seven kills through two sets, and Maggie Mendelson has six. Taylor Landfair leads Nebraska with six kills and Rebekah Allick has five.

Nebraska 25-14: The Huskers found their hitting and blocking grooves in the second set. And it couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Nittany Lions, who saw their hitting percentage drop to .081.

Nebraska 19-12: A back row hit by Merritt Beason was so hard it bounced off a Penn State player and went across the court into the stands for a 17-9 lead. Penn State takes advantage of a pair of Nebraska hits and Izzy Starck follows a Husker pancake with a crushing deep kill to pull the Nittany Lions to within 19-12. Nebraska timeout.

Nebraska 15-7: The Huskers seem to have shaken off the travel rust they had in the first set. And the shots that worked for Penn State in the first set to keep Nebraska off balance aren’t working in this one. The Huskers are killed by Landfair, Jackson and Allick. Penn State calls timeout and chants of “Go Big Red” are almost as loud as “We Are … Penn State”.

Nebraska 9-4: Nebraska jumps out to a 4-2 lead, but Penn State uses an ace by Gillian Grimes and kill by Mruzik to pull within one. It’s all Huskers for the next five points as they add to their lead with kills by Andi Jackson, Taylor Landfair and a tag block by Allick. Penn State calls timeout.

Just the stats: Penn State led Nebraska in kills 17-13, but their hitting percentages are nearly identical at just over .200. Jurevicius and Mendelson led all hitters with five kills each.

Penn State 23-19: Nebraska challenges a no-touch call on a hit by Harper Murray that was called long. The call stands, and the Nittany Lions take a four-point lead.

Penn State 22-19: Just as Nebraska trailed by 19, the Nittany Lions wrapped kills by Hannah and Jurevicius around a Husker miscue to force a Nebraska timeout.

Penn State 17-14: A Jess Mruzik ace adds to the Nittany Lions lead, but a long serve turns the serve over to the Huskers.

Penn State, Nebraska tied at 11: Nebraska used its height advantage to increase their lead to two, but a hitting error and a crushing hit by Penn State’s Caroline Jurevicius pulled them even again, this time at 11. It’s shaping up to be the kind of game we’ve come to expect between two top 5 teams.

Nebraska 7-6: Penn State jumped out to an early lead and Nebraska didn’t get their first point until a no-touch challenge was overturned at 4-1. The Huskers hitters began to find their groove after winning that challenge and took their first lead at 7-6 on a block by Harper Murray.
