Akron Zips score on first offensive snap after Toledo Rockets miss field goal. UA leads 7-0

After Toledo’s Dylan Cunanan missed a 45-yard field goal to end the first drive of the game with 10:58 left in the opening quarter, Akron drew first blood.

On Zipper‘ first offensive snap, wide receiver Ahmarian Granger ran a slant route and caught a short pass from quarterback Ben Finley. Granger was open when he hauled in the ball, and he ran to the end zone untouched for a 73-yard touchdown. The extra point gave the Zips a 7-0 lead with 10:47 left in the first quarter.

Granger produced another highlight reel during Akron’s third possession. After Granger began to slide, he stayed on the ground and caught a 34-yard pass from Finley near the UA sideline. However, the drive stalled shortly afterwards.

Granger had two catches for 107 yards and a TD in the first quarter.
