If you haven’t played it before, Connections challenges you to sort a group of 16 words into four groups where all the words go together well. This connection could come from them sharing a similar meaning, being part of a place name, objects found in a kitchen, or anything at all!

Although this may sound easy, the Connection groups each have their own level of difficulty – with Yellow being the easiest and Purple being the hardest. For this reason, train today’s Connection answer can be quite tricky. You may get one group right away, but another may be a mystery to you. Luckily, we’re here to help!

Originally developed during The New York Times game department’s annual game jam, the beta version of Connections was released in June 2023. Since then, it has become one of the most popular games the NYTimes has to offer, beaten only by Wordle. Although some links have been made to the BBC’s Only Connect programme…

Tip for today’s Connections answer

Instead of jumping straight to the answer, let’s start with some hints for today’s Connections puzzle:

  • Yellow – Any ___ is a good ___.
  • Green – You have a unique one.
  • Blue – Bells in.
  • Purple – What word could come after?
  • Coverage belongs to Yellow, Perspective belongs to Green, and Slack belongs to Blue.

Remember – Yellow is the easiest group to find followed by green and blue, with purple being the hardest set of words to connect.

What should I play after Connections?

The obvious answer to this question is Wordlebut if you’ve already solved it today, The New York Times offers other games. When it comes to word-based games, The NYTimes has Mini crossword, Spell Bee, Letterbox and Beacheswhich is still in its beta phase. If you want a break from words, you can also try Tiles – a motif matching game – or Sudoku.


NEW game

Outside of The NYTimes is there Semantle – where you have to reach the secret word by guessing its meaning. Spelling doesn’t count in Semantle, instead you need to pay attention to the numerical value of your guesses to map your way to the answer. However, if you prefer to stick to the Connections format, then it’s worth a visit Puzzle grid. Here you’ll find hundreds of Connections-style puzzles, but the twist is that you only have three minutes to solve them.
