New album with SZA, Jack Antonoff

Kendrick Lamar has surprisingly released his new album “GNX”, featuring contributions from Jack Antonoff, SZA and Kamasi Washington.

The 12-track “GNX” is relatively light on features, with the exception of two tracks — “Luther” and “Gloria” — that feature SZA. The album features “Heart Pt. 6,” the latest in his ongoing series, which Drake used as the title of one of his diss tracks in the back-and-forth between the rappers earlier this year.

Rumors had been circulating for months that Lamar was hard at work on a new project. Earlier this week, DJ Snake suggested that Mustard had contributed to four or five of the songs and that there was a surprise for Taylor Swift, although she doesn’t appear to be doing the project.

Lamar also references his controversial Super Bowl Halftime Show performance on the opening track “Wacced Out Murals,” a concert that many on the Internet complained should have gone to Lil Wayne because it took place in his native New Orleans. “I used to bump ‘Tha Carter 3,’ I held my Rollie chain proud / Irony, I think my hard work failed Lil Wayne,” he raps. “Has the Super Bowl and Nas the only one congratulating me, all these n—s excited, I’m just glad it’s on their faces”

“GNX” comes before the end of a massive year for Lamar. Making headlines this spring for his feud with Drake, he released a string of singles including “Euphoria,” “Meet the Grahams,” and “Not Like Us,” the latter of which became the only song to make a significant impact on the charts . Earlier this month it was announced that the song was nominated for song of the year and record of the year.
