‘Marvel’ actor says mom used to send wild animals after him

Josh Brolin opened up about his complicated relationship with his mother in his new memoir, “From under the truck,” where he shared something not as motherly as she used to do.

The actor, known for playing the villain Thanos in the Marvel movies, sat down for an interview with The Timespublished on Saturday, to talk about his book. In the article, the interviewer mentions a story Brolin talks about in the book that describes his mother Jane, who was a conservationist in Texas.

The Oscar nominee grew up on a ranch in Paso Robles, California, with her younger brother, Jess.

Regarding his mother’s drinking, he said she would often take her sons to bars and flirt with cowboys and truckers to get them to buy her drinks.

The Brolins kept several rescued wild animals on the ranch: bobcats, cougars, coyotes, wolves and mountain lions.

In what he described as an extremely traumatizing trick she used to do, she would often shout “Sic ’em” to the wild animal that was nearby to make the animal hunt her sons.

The animals usually took off, which would send the boys running.

“You knew that if you didn’t get on the other side of the closed door within a few seconds, you’d be cleaning fresh bloody marks somewhere on your body for the rest of the day,” Brolin wrote.

Although the “Brothers” actor questioned his mother’s behavior, he admired her strength and now realizes that the hardest parts of his childhood helped shape the person he is today.

“She was a pain in (the statement). I mean, no one would dispute that — no one — but you don’t want her around,” he wrote.

Jane made “everything a little more powerful, a little more alive.” Then he added, “It’s just kind of falling into that place. Like, ‘Oh, you’re definitely your mother’s son.'”

Ultimately, Brolin’s mother died in a car accident in 1995 aged just 55.

From under the truck” will be available from Tuesday.
