Trump picks South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem to be secretary of homeland security

President-elect Donald Trump is expected to pick South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem to fill the role of secretary of Homeland Security, according to multiple reports Tuesday.

Noem, who was considered a potential candidate on the Trump ticket earlier this year, has served as governor of the Mount Rushmore State since 2019.

The Department of Homeland Security is over US Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the US Secret Service and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

If elected, Noem would work alongside Tom Homan, who was announced as Trump’s “border czar” on Sunday, and Stephen Miller, who was announced on Monday as a White House deputy director.

It was also announced Monday night that Trump is expected to pick Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., as his secretary of state.
