OpenAIs ChatGPT was down to thousands worldwide. Users saw a “bad gateway” error. According to DownDetector, a platform that tracks online outages, more than 16,000 people in the US were affected by the problem.

OpenAI responded to the fallout: ‘We are currently investigating this matter.’ According to DownDetector, 79% of users said they had problems with ChatGPT in general. Meanwhile, 15% complained about the mobile application and 6% were unable to use the website.

Several users reported problems on social media. “Chat GPT is down and I need help with the last question in my exam,” joked one person on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

“chatgpt is down today everyone please get back to writing your own code now,” added another.

“I wonder if I asked too much of Chat GPT and somehow caused it to crash. #ChatGPT,” said a third person on the Elon Musk-led platform. OpenAI has yet to provide a timeline for when the issue will be resolved and what caused it. The time it takes to fix a 502 Bad Gateway error can vary from a few minutes to several hours, depending on the cause.

ChatGPT also went down on Monday

ChatGPT on Monday suffered a massive crash, just days after OpenAI released its chatbot search engine. The website displayed a “404 Not Found” error message.
