Pelicans’ Willie Green issues Brandon Ingram injury update

The New Orleans Pelicans and Zion Williamson are in good spirits heading into the holiday season. Even though the former All-Star is out for another few weeks, the locker room is giving Willie Green a maximum effort. Fellow Pelicans All-Star Brandon Ingram has been leading the way despite some lower leg injuries that noticeably gained attention during an NBA Cup loss to the Golden State Warriors.

Ingram was listed on the latest injury report with a left ankle injury, but noticeably reached his right leg during the NBA Cup battle against the Warriors. Green’s update on the All-Star during the postgame presser was spot on another somber note on top of the 10th defeat in 11 games.

“(Ingram) is fighting through some bumps and bruises right now,” Green began. “You know, we put a lot on his shoulders. He’s done a really good job of coming in every day to get his work in and get his treatment. He makes himself available to get on the floor and help this team. “

The Pelicans are getting approximately 23 points, six rebounds and six assists from Ingram this season. Maybe it’s not quite max-level contract extension production on the statistics sheet. However, Ingram’s leadership is difficult to quantify as the injury-ravaged Pelicans roster is still struggling for Willie Green.

Green couldn’t get more specific until the Pelicans had a chance to regroup for practice with the practice staff. The coach should also not fall for a trap which could have led to a hefty fine. Green picked up a technical foul, a rare occurrence for the soft-spoken coach, while taking issue with a no-call on Trey Murphy III that helped Stephen Curry steal a win in the Crescent City.

“I’m not going to let you fine me with that question right there,” Green laughed. “No. But I thought (Murphy III) got dumped. That’s all it was. I thought he had been molested.”
