Kentucky at Texas – UK Athletics

3rd quarter

In the third quarter, UK went to freshman quarterback Cutter Boley. On the second play of the possession, Boley connected with Barion Brown for a 43-yard completion. But a team penalty stopped the drive and the Cats were forced to punt. Texas took over at its own six yard line.

The UK defense forced a three-and-out and Texas punted it away, with Maclin returning it 14 yards to the Texas 43 yard line, where the Cats took over.

Kentucky would get a first down on its next drive, but on fourth and one, Wilcox was stopped and the Cats turned the ball over on downs.

On the ensuing Texas drive, Blue fumbled and Deone Walker recovered, giving UK the ball at the Texas 32 yard line.

On the first play of the Kentucky drive, Boley converted and found tight end Willie Rodriguez for a 25-yard gain, bringing the Cats to the Texas seven. However, a negative rushing game and a sack stopped the drive. Raynor would get on the field for a 33-yard field goal, but it was wide left and the score remained 24-7. It was Raynor’s first miss of the season.

Kentucky got a good bounce on the third play on the next drive. Ewers went back to pass, but the ball came out and UK’s Jamon Dumas-Johnson plucked it out of the air and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown. Raynor made the PAT and the Cats cut the deficit to 24-14 with 2:41 left in the third period.

As the third quarter ended, Texas drove into Kentucky territory with a 24-14 advantage.
