Following cool days and cool nights through the weekend

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Noticeably colder air has swept into Alabama and you will feel it for the next few days! Sunshine dominates the skies over the state now through the weekend, but that won’t help temperatures as afternoon highs will struggle to get into the lower 60s.

Highs warmed to the upper 50s to lower 60s this afternoon under sunny skies, but at times the windiness made it feel much colder than normal on the thermometer. Winds will be gusty, out of the northwest around 5 to 15 mph, gusty at times…this will continue overnight. When the sun goes down, we go from cool to cold. Overnight temperatures will drop into the mid to upper 30s tonight with west winds remaining breezy and clear skies.

Frost advice: Several of our counties should be prepared for temperatures to dip into the low/mid 30s for a few hours before sunrise Friday morning. Because of that, the National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory… sensitive plants left outdoors without cover or protection will be affected!

Cold air in the morning and afternoon hangs around for the first half of the weekend......
Cold air in the mornings and afternoons will stick around for the first half of the weekend…we will gradually warm up ahead of our next best chance for rain, which is Thanksgiving.(WSFA 12 News)

The chill in the air lingers on both Friday and Saturday. Even with sunshine, highs will only warm to the upper 50s to lower 60s. Winds will be around 5 to 10 mph to end the week and start the weekend ahead.

The night will fall, expect 30s both Friday night and Saturday night! There is likely to be frost in the coldest places on Saturday and Sunday morning.

Temperatures will begin to rise on Sunday and as we head into next week. Highs will be back in the 60s and 70s with overnight lows in the 40s and 50s. This warming is ahead of our next storm system that will bring rain back to the state.

We then issue a first alert as the rain looks set to arrive the day before Thanksgiving, a very busy travel day, and Thanksgiving Day itself on the wet side of things. Something we’ll be watching closely as forecast data unfolds through the week and into the next.

Tracking the Tropics: There are currently no areas of interest being monitored by the National Hurricane Center. Hurricane season officially ends on November 30th.
