ForbesToday’s ‘Wordle’ #1251 Hints, Clues and Answer for Thursday, November 21st

Finally, dear speakers, we have reached Friday. Most of the time I complain that time flies too fast, but for some reason the last week has gone by at a strangely slow pace. I can’t put my finger on why. That’s what time is all about. It really is all in our heads. Entropy occurs. We age. The earth revolves around the sun. Day and night repeat. But time itself is as abstract a notion as our human brains can imagine, and reading about space-time doesn’t help much, at least for those of us whose brains aren’t suited to math.

For example, mine is better with words and language than with physics and math, although I find it all fascinating. What is the meaning of life if not to learn and experience? Anyways, there is a Wordle to solve. Let’s solve it!

PS It’s 2XP Friday, so double your points – positive or negative – if you play Competitive Wordle!

Word analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

I was lucky today, although there is a cruel irony even in my success. I used today’s Wordle as an initial guess with some frequency recently, but due to some changes in my life circumstances I decided not to anymore. Still, when my first guess came back with PEAR all in yellow, I had to try. Sure enough, PEARL was Wordle. If things had been different, I might have guessed this in just one today. C’est la vie.

Competitive Wordle Score

I get 2 points for guessing in two and another for beating Bot who took three tries today. That’s 3 points, doubled for 2XP Friday for all 6. Huzzah! (Had I guessed in 1, I would have gotten 3 points +1 for beating Bot x2 for a total of 8. Oh well!)

How to play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 point; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing Wordle is -3 points.

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word pearl comes from Middle English pearlwhich was borrowed from Old French pearl. This, in turn, probably comes from medieval Latin pearlmeaning “a pearl” or “something round”, which may be related to the Latin word pernameaning “bone”, because of the mutton bone shape of some bivalve shells that produce pearls.
