ForbesToday’s NEW ‘Connections’ tip and answer for Wednesday 20 November

Hey there! I hope you have had a good week so far.

I typically leave my daily recommendations for the end of the column, but I’ll leave a bonus for you here today. If you have a Netflix subscription, you have access to some really great games on iPhone, iPad and Android devices at no extra cost. I helped put together a list of suggestions a few months back and I think the service really has something for everyone at this point.

Netflix added recently Monument Valley and its successor to the library. They are relaxing, meditative puzzles. A brand new third title in the series is coming next month. I’m looking forward to that.

Another game that I can’t say enough good things about is Poinpymy 2022 game of the year. I just started over and it’s still a pleasure.

Today’s NEW Connections advice and answers for Thursday 21 November will come straight up.

How Connections plays

Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play on NEW website or game app.

You are presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by finding out the connections between them. The groups can be things like clickable items, names of research study participants, or words with a body part in front.

There is only one solution to each puzzle and you have to be careful when it comes to words that can fit into more than one category. You can mix up the words to perhaps help you see connections between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the hardest. The purple group often involves puns.

Choose four words that you think fit together and press send. If you guess and you’re wrong, you lose a life. If you’re close to having a correct group, you may see a message telling you that you’re one word away from getting it right, but you still need to figure out which one to swap.

If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with some tips and if you’re really struggling, today’s is Connections answer. As with Wordle and other similar games, it’s easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chat.

If you have one NEW Free access or Spil subscription you can access Connections file. This includes all previous games of Connectionsso you can go back and play any of them you missed.

Apart from the first 60 games or so, you should be able to find my tips for each grid via Google if you need them! Just click here and add the date of the game for which you need clues or the answers to the search query.

What are today’s connections answers?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll down the page any further until you’re ready to find out about today Connections answer.

This is your last warning!

Today’s Connections the answers are…

  • Yellow group — types of shirts (FLANNEL, OXFORD, POLO, TEE)
  • Green group — balls in milk tea (BOBA, BUBBLE, PEARL, TAPIOCA)
  • Blue group — marine invertebrates, familiar (CORAL, JELLY, SPONGE, STAR)
  • Purple group – starting with pasta names (FETT, PENN, TORTE, ZIT)

Damn, my four game streak is over. Here’s how I managed:

Yes, I got red herring. I don’t really think it’s a verb, but I’m making it one.

As much as I enjoyed seeing BOBA and FETT together as the first two words, it was immediately clear that they were not Star Wars related (I’m not a huge fan, but I enjoy it!). As such, BOBA had to go with the rest of the greens – although I did slip up accidentally including JELLY at the start. Hoof!

The yellow ones were next when they were clear enough. I thought I had it from there. I was convinced that MUSHROOM, JELLY and CAKE were some kind of desserts, but couldn’t see what would go with them. I tried STAR, CORAL and PENN with no success.

In retrospect, STAR should have made the blues a little clearer, but it just didn’t click at all. I assumed there was some kind of play on words going on with FETT, but I didn’t figure it out. It’s also a little surprising that we got two pasta-related groups in the space of a few days.

For the ribbon, the purple group relates to fettuccine, penne, tortelli/tortellini/tortelloni and ziti.

Alas. A new streak starts tomorrow.

That’s all there is to it for today Connections clues and answers. Remember to check my blog for tips and the fix for Friday’s match if you need them.

PS I think it makes sense to go with a Star Wars recommendation today, but I didn’t enjoy it The book about Boba Fett.

I intend to get around to the Disney+ series Andor but haven’t yet (I just started another great series on the service that I’ll talk about soon). Andor is a prequel series to Rogue Onewhich follows a group of rebels trying to steal the diagrams for the Death Star. I’ve seen that movie and it’s amazing.

If you are so inclined, go for it follow my blog for more coverage of Connections and other puns and even some video game news, insights and analysis. It helps me a lot!
