Al Michaels makes correct call before official announcement of electrifying TD

Al Michaels made a good call in the fourth quarter Thursday night footballthat offers a quick – and ultimately accurate – analysis of a touchdown play before the official review ended.

Early in the fourth, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson hit wide receiver Tylan Wallace on a short sideline pattern. Wallace eluded three Cincinnati Bengals defenders and raced down the sideline for an 84-yard touchdown.

The immediate question: Had Wallace stepped out of bounds? As officials reviewed the play, the Prime Video production team showed a high angle replay of Wallace running inches from the sideline.

“Here’s a good look to see if he stayed within the frame,” analyst Kirk Herbstreit said.

At one point, Wallace’s right foot appeared to go off the field.

“Oh, look! That right foot!” Michaels said.

“Oh, that’s the one they want to look at,” Herbstreit said.

“Almost looked like the toe was in (limits), the heel was up,” Michaels quickly noted.

It wasn’t an easy decision to make after a quick glance at the replay, but Michaels pulled it off. Officials confirmed the touchdown, and Jackson had the longest TD pass of his career.

The broadcast provided a second look at the play, allowing Herbstreit to explain how Wallace pulled off the touchdown.
