Live Nebraska 2024 election results: Trump projected to win 3 electoral votes

ABC News projects that Donald Trump will win at least three of Nebraska’s electoral votes.

Nebraska voters went to the polls on Election Day to cast their ballots in the presidential election as well as several down-ballot U.S. Senate and House races.

The state has a total of five electoral votes, two of which are awarded to the nationwide popular vote winner and the other three are awarded by district.

Voters are also considering two competing abortion ballot measures, one to create a basic right to abortion and the other to impose a 12-week ban.

Polling stations closed between 19:00 and 20:00 local time.

State significance

Nebraska’s unique election system was the subject of debate this year as Republican lawmakers sought to change it to a winner-take-all approach that would have benefited former President Donald Trump and risked a reelection campaign.

Trump won statewide over President Joe Biden in 2020 by 17 percentage points. However, Biden won one electoral vote from Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District.

Down the ballot are three U.S. House races and one Senate race between Republican incumbent Sen. Deb Fischer and independent candidate Dan Osborn.

There is also a ballot measure that, if passed, would amend the state constitution to create a fundamental right to abortion, prohibiting state interference until the viability of the fetus, in cases where there is a substantial likelihood that the fetus can survive outside the womb, or if the abortion is necessary to protect the life or health of a pregnant patient, according to the Secretary of State.

However, another ballot measure would write into the constitution a 12-week abortion ban, which includes exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother.

Counties are colored red or blue when the expected percentage of vote reporting reaches a set threshold. This threshold varies from state to state and is based on patterns of past poll reporting and expectations of how the poll will report this year.
