Technical error grounds American Airlines flights throughout the country

MIAMI – A technical problem disrupted American Airlines flights across the country on Tuesday, leaving passengers stranded while crews worked to resolve the issue.

The airline confirmed the error in a statement, saying: “We are currently experiencing a technical issue with all American Airlines flights. Your safety is our highest priority. Once this is fixed, we will have you safely on your way to your destination.”

Among those affected was a flight to Miami from Texas, where a passenger told Local 10 News reporter Liane Morejon that her flight was unable to depart.

“The pilot told us it’s the software that calculates the baggage weight for each flight so no one can take off,” the passenger said.

American Airlines officials apologized for the inconvenience and assured customers that teams were working quickly to resolve the issue. The extent and duration of the disruption is currently unclear.

Local 10 News has reached out to the airline to see how the glitch is affecting passengers at South Florida airports.

“Given that American Airlines is reporting a system issue at X, their operations at our airport are likely to be affected until the matter is resolved. Therefore, passengers traveling on AA from FLL today should stay in close contact with AA for updated flight status , before they get to the airport as there may be delays,” FLL Public Information Officer Arlene Satchell said in a statement to Local 10 News.

At Miami International Airport, 14 delays were reported on Tuesday, but no cancellations were reported FlightAware.com. Nearby Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport experienced 13 delays and one cancellation.
