Seattle metrobus stabbing: $10,000 reward offered

The transit union is offering a $10,000 reward to help find the person who murdered a Seattle bus driver.

Around 3:00 a.m. Wednesday, Seattle police reported that Shawn Yim was killed in the line of duty.

Yim had been a bus driver for King County Metro since 2015.

Investigators said Yim had two passengers on his bus Wednesday morning when one of them stabbed him to death.

The killer is still at large.

“What I do know is we’re not doing enough. We’re not doing enough,” said Greg Woodfill, who is president of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 587.

He said the union has been working for months to try to make buses safer for drivers and passengers without changes. He said, after this brutal murder of one of their own, action is needed immediately.

“What we’ve invested so far in the future will all be for naught if our operators don’t feel safe operating a vehicle, if passengers don’t feel safe riding it,” Woodfill said.

Woodfill said there needs to be secured areas for drivers, there needs to be more dedicated transit police and there needs to be a regional task force to deal with the safety issues.

Yim’s killing comes on the heels of King County Metro shutting down all service to a bus stop in Seattle’s Chinatown neighborhood.

The union said it is offering a $10,000 reward to anyone who helps find the killer.

There are photos of the suspect, but Seattle Police have not yet released them.
