Disney cuts trans story from Pixar’s ‘Win or Lose’ series

“Win or Lose,” Pixar’s first-ever long-form series, was originally supposed to feature a transgender storyline that ended up being cut by Disney, Black have learned.

Debuting in 2025, “Win or Lose” will follow the members of a co-ed middle school softball team as they prepare for their championship game. Each episode follows a different character, and the show is meant to focus on different perspectives — including “the insecure kids, their helicopter parents, even a lovesick judge,” according to the official logline — but a trans perspective will no longer be highlighted. A source says so Black that references to one of the characters’ gender identity were removed, affecting a few lines of dialogue in the series’ later episodes, although it appears that there was not an entire episode dedicated to the topic.

“When it comes to animated content for younger audiences, we recognize that many parents prefer to discuss certain topics with their children on their own terms and timeline,” a Disney spokesperson said.

“Win or Lose” is written, directed and executive produced by Carrie Hobson and Michael Yates. David Lally serves as producer. The series premieres on February 11.
