Rúben Amorim reveals the reason for the exclusion of Rashford and Garnacho

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has revealed that neither Marcus Rashford nor Alejandro Garnacho are injured ahead of Sunday’s derby.

Both men have been left out of the United squad for their game against Manchester City on Sunday with Rasmus Højlund in charge for the Red Devils.

And speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the game at the Etihad, the Portuguese tactician admitted he dropped the pair for reasons other than fitness.

“We try to evaluate everything practice performance, game performance, engagement with teammates, pushing their teammates up,” he said.

“Everything is at stake when we analyze and try to select the players. That’s my choice. Simple.

“I don’t want to send a message, it’s simply an evaluation and they know it. The players are really, really smart. Everyone understands my decision and I have to choose. It’s simple choice.

“Obviously the context is difficult because we have to win games and we have a difficult situation now. I pay attention to everything, the way you eat, the way you put on your clothes to go to a game. Everything. I make my assessment and then I decide.

“There is a communication after the last training session. They are okay. They had practice this morning and I was there. They trained really well.”

United have won just one of their three games under Amorim in the Premier League.
