Dolphins’ Jaylen Waddle ends the game with a scary knee injury

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle left Sunday’s game with an apparent knee injury. The team later announced that Waddle was officially questionable to return for the Week 15 game against the Houston Texans.

While Waddle was blocking for teammate De’Von Achane, his right leg was rolled up.

Waddle then spent time in the medical tent to be evaluated. He was shown limping on the sidelines soon after. The wide receiver recorded zero receptions on two targets before making his untimely departure.

Dolphins star receiver Tyreek Hill also has zero touches, while Achane tallied 10 in the first quarter alone. Houston has one of the league’s best pass rushes, which means quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will need to maintain a quick delivery time.

Earlier this week, head coach Mike McDaniel talked about the importance of Tagovailoa’s quick delivery in negating the effectiveness of the Texans’ pass rush.

“I think in general they’re very, very good at passing,” McDaniel said. “Tua is good at getting the ball out. Overall, I think it’s going to be more of a complexion of the unit or the whole group and defensively, how do they defend, how do they cover with the pass rush, (and then) offensively, how do we protect , but how do we move down the field, beat redirection, beat man coverage, separate the timing of the play. less individuals, more of a collection of the group.

Waddle was limited in practice this week with a hamstring strain, but was ready for Sunday’s matchup.

Waddle has struggled this season, tallying 54 receptions for 700 yards. He has also recorded a career-low two touchdown catches. During Waddle’s first three seasons in the NFL, the wideout surpassed 1,000 receiving yards.

Cornerback Kendall Fuller talked about the importance of health during football in December.

“Health is definitely one of them, just having everyone out there healthy,” Fuller said via team transcript. “And then I don’t think it’s a secret, it’s just a matter of 11 guys on the field doing their job and winning their games. Football will always be football. When you have guys that go out there and play, Regardless whichever team plays the most is going to win. It’s just a matter of it being December, every game counts in December, but at the end of the day it’s still football.”

The hope is that Waddle’s injury doesn’t sideline him for longer than this week’s game. The Dolphins will have to get a win over the Texans without the help of Waddle. Miami is in for an AFC wild-card spot if the team can defeat the Texans in Week 15.
