Season 3 of “Squid Game” may be coming sooner than you think.

The third season of the popular South Korean thriller on Netflix will be the last, series creator, director writer and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk has previously confirmed.

Now, with the release of season 2 (streaming now), we have some clues as to where the final season will take viewers. Hwang has dropped some breadcrumbs, and there’s a post-credits clip that gives more clues as to where the story is taking us.

Here’s everything we know so far about “Squid Game” Season 3.

When is ‘Squid Game’ season 3 coming out?

Netflix already has announced plans for the third and last season of “Squid Game”. Season 3 of the series will be released in 2025 and will continue to focus on Seong Gi-hun’s revenge on the creators of the Squid Game.

Hwang told Black earlier this month that a more specific release date will likely be announced “soon.”

“I probably expect it to launch around summer or fall next year,” Hwang told the outlet.

Where did season 2 go?

Season 2 left with a bang, with brutal violence, shocking deaths and an abrupt cliffhanger.

Hwang and Lee Jung-jaestarring Seong Gi-hun, broke season 2 and the amazing finale with USA TODAY last week (spoilers ahead at the link below!)

What happens in ‘Squid Game’ season 3?

After a Season 2 cliffhanger, viewers are eager to see what happens in Season 3.

In case you missed it, there were also post-credits scenes after the final episode of Season 2. “If you watch that clip, it will give you a little hint of where Season 3 might take you,” Hwang told Variety.

The director has also hinted that the battle between Seong Gi-hun, also known as Player 456, and Front Man will continue to be a worthy opponent in the third season.

“The violent clash between their two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year,” Hwang wrote in a letter to fans.

Hwang told USA TODAY that the third season will also bring back “VIPs,” the wealthy spectators who enjoyed watching the poor farmers struggle and die while betting millions on the outcome, last seen in Season 1.

“You will get to see the VIPs in the third season,” he said through a translator. “They’re coming. They’re on their way. Their helicopter is flying over the island now.”
