Aaron Rodgers becomes the most sacked QB in history, gets called late hit

Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers wants to play all 17 games this season, and his desire to keep playing allowed him to set an NFL record Sunday afternoon.

Gregory Rousseau sacked Rodgers for the 566th career sack in the third quarter at Buffalo, breaking a tie with Tom Brady for the most quarterback sacks in league history. Sacks first became an official NFL stat for defensive players in 1982, but they’ve been recorded for quarterbacks since 1963. If you include numbers from before 1963, Fran Tarkenton is the all-time leader with 570 sacks, and Rodgers could get there if he plays. up to and including week 18.

Rodgers added another interesting wrinkle to his career resume in the next game. After being intercepted by Bills corner Christian Benford, Rodgers was flagged for a late hit for hitting Benford when he was out of bounds.

It was Rodgers’ second interception of the day and the Bills led 12-0 with just over six minutes left in the third quarter.
