If Aaron Rodgers returns to the Jets, Garrett Wilson might want out

It’s becoming increasingly unlikely that the Jets will bring back quarterback Aaron Rodgers for another year, especially as he continues to needle Woody Johnson.

There is one more reason for the Jets to move on. If Rodgers returns, receiver Garrett Wilson could be looking for a way out.

Via Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Wilson could ask for a trade if Rodgers comes back.

Wilson, the 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year, is eligible for a new contract after the current season.

Rodgers and Wilson reportedly had a “blowup” during camp. The receiver’s numbers haven’t been out of whack compared to his first two seasons, despite the arrival of Rodgers’ BFF Davante Adams. For the year, Wilson has been targeted 141 times, with 90 catches for 987 yards and six touchdowns.

Of course, during Wilson’s first two seasons, the quarterback was not one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.

So yes, Wilson should get more without a doubt. His talent is undeniable. With Rodgers at quarterback, it’s more complicated than that.

For the Jets, it’s not that complicated. A new GM and a new coach should be inclined to move on from the move that brought down their predecessors. Even if the new regime wants Rodgers, Woody (and/or his teenage sons) may not.

And while the Jets want Rodgers, he may not want to return to a place that has been marked by leaks. With the latest is a direct shot at Rodgers.
