Ladd McConkey has already set one Chargers rookie record early Saturday, securing his 72nd reception of the season to pass Keenan Allen on the franchise list.

So why not add a touchdown to his day?

After Derwin James fell on a Patriots fumble, the Chargers took over at New England’s 44-yard line. They mixed up the run and the pass as they marched down the field, giving Hassan Haskins a carry up the middle to set up first and goal from the 6.

Justin Herbert dropped back and scanned the field before firing a rocket over the middle to McConkey, who hauled it in with a bevy of Patriots defenders around him to extend the Chargers lead to 17-0.

The drive also moved Herbert past Peyton Manning for most passing yards in a player’s first five seasons when he hit JK Dobbins on a checkdown for 7 yards to put the Chargers inside the Patriots’ 15-yard line.
