Cottonwood resident wins $1.22 billion in Mega Millions jackpot

A lucky Cottonwood resident just won $1.22 billion from Friday’s Mega Millions drawing.

The California Lottery shared their excitement for the California resident on their Facebook page. They said the winning ticket was sold at Sunshine Food and Gas on Rhonda Rd. in Cottonwood.

With all six numbers on the player’s numbers matching the winning numbers, the winner walks away with $1.22 billion. “Just in time for the new year,” exclaimed the CA Lottery.

The CA Lottery said two other California residents were second-place winners on Dec. 27, matching five numbers, missing only the Mega number and earning a prize of $787,543 each.
