Former NBA guard shares thoughts on Warriors’ Jonathan Kuminga

Over the past 18 months, Jonathan Kuminga has emerged as a potential future All-Star. The Golden State Warriors has always been high on the explosive young forward. However, his production in recent months has likely cemented their belief that he can develop into a core member of their future rotations.

However, according to former NBA guard Jeff Teague, who recently appeared on his ‘Club 520’ podcast, Kuminga is still learning how to play basketball. The former NBA champion believes that most modern young players enter the league with raw athleticism and limited skills.

“Kuminga is the primary definition of a young talent. Like he doesn’t really know how to play,” Teague said. “But he’s talented. It’s like most kids growing up now. I hate to sound like an old head for saying that. But when you watch basketball or practice it or be around, people really don’t know the fundamentals of the game. Or really know how to play it.

Kuminga has played in 27 games this season, averaging 15.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and two assists while shooting 44% from the field. Nevertheless, he still has plenty of room to develop, especially if he wants to prove himself as a true franchise cornerstone.

Regardless of what Teague or anyone else says, Kuminga has shown dramatic improvement in his game and continues to develop. He was undoubtedly a raw talent when he entered the league and still has a lot to learn and polish. Nevertheless, it’s that raw talent that makes him such an exciting prospect and why he continues to retain Warriors fans dreaming of a bright future in the post-Stephen Curry era.
