This was an amazing play by Michael Hawkins Jr. that fans couldn’t believe

Holy smokes.

In his fourth career start, Michael Hawkins Jr. a game during the Armed Forces Bowl against Navy that is sure to be on SportsCenter’s Top 10 Friday night.

Hawkins immediately went left from the pocket, still keeping his eyes downfield. But when the pressure came and no one was open, Hawkins turned and crawled the other way to his right. After reaching the second hash and still running, Hawkins found Zion Kearney downfield and swung his wrist to complete a 56-yard TD.

The touchdown put the Sooners ahead 14-0 still with 5:56 left in the first quarter. OU reached the end zone on its first two possessions.

The result was also Kearney’s first career TD as a freshman. He was one of three freshman receivers to start for the Sooners, as they have only one non-freshman receiver on the depth chart in walk-on redshirt senior Major Melson, who has never caught a pass in college.

The play, which showcased Hawkins’ ability to escape and his arm strength, sent Sooner Nation and college football fans around the country into a frenzy, even drawing comparisons to OU’s Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray.
