Coronation Street legend Jack P. Shepherd has revealed he will not be in the audience cheering on co-star Sam Aston when he competes in Dancing on Ice. Sam, who has played as Chesney Brown for 21 years, will be among the famous faces taking to the rink next month.

Speaking to Corrie actor Colson Smith on the On the Sofa podcast, Jack praised Sam’s ice dancing ahead of the competition. But when asked if he would travel down to Bovingdon Studios in Hertfordshire, where Dancing on Ice is filmed, Jack replied: “No, I’m not, and I’ve been before. It’s in the middle of nowhere, and it’s a bit of a pain to get to.”

Colson explained that he plans to see Sam and previously sat in the audience when former Corrie star Brooke Vincent took part in 2018. The 32-year-old came second in 2018 to former X Factor contestant Jake Quickenden.

Colson initially thought Sam was appearing on Strictly Come Dancing, only to realize it was EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick in the BBC hit. However, Jack explained that there is a “rule” where stars do not appear on their rival station. The 36-year-old said: “There’s this rule where ITV and the BBC don’t share their artists. It’s a stupid rule.”

This means stars currently working on shows such as EastEnders can compete in Strictly, Race Across the World and MasterChef, Colson explained. While Corrie actors regularly appear in I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! or Dancing on Ice.

Dancing on Ice returns to TV screens on Sunday 12 January. This year’s competition will feature the likes of Olympic rower Sir Steve Redgrave, TV presenter Michaela Strachan and soap stars Sam Aston and Chelsee Healey. They are joined by former Premier League ace Anton Ferdinand, TOWIE’s Dan Edgar and Ferne McCann and Mollie Pearce from The Traitors.
