‘Batman’ sequel moves to 2027

Alejandro González Iñárritu and Tom Cruise are flying into the fall 2026 film season. Their untitled feature will arrive on October 2, 2026, Warner Bros. announced. Friday.

It slips into the date previously held by Matt Reeves Batman successorwhich is currently untitled. The film – which was previously expected to hit theaters in 2025 – is expected to go into production in the third quarter of 2025 and is now set for October 1, 2027.

The film is not part of the DC universe being built by James Gunn and Peter Safran, although they are helping to oversee the project.

Meanwhile Batman star Robert Pattinson’s and filmmaker Bong Joon Ho’s upcoming Mickey 17 swaps release dates with film director Ryan Coogler and star Michael B. Jordan’s Sinners. Mickey 17 now opens March 7, 2025, while Sinners bows on April 18, 2025.
