Spencer Danielson describes what stood out to him when he watched Penn State vs. SMU

Ahead of their second game against a powerhouse opponent this season in their playoff quarterfinal, Boise State Spencer Danielson noted what he has noticed in the preparation of Penn State Nittany Lions.

Danielson talked about the Broncos’ opponent in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl on New Year’s Eve below a press conference earlier this week. The first thing he’s seen is a compliment to James Franklin considering how well his team is playing.

“How well-trained they are,” Danielson said. “I mean there is – in all three phases. In all three phases they are extremely well trained. Very, very talented across the board. But they don’t just run out there. They are extremely well trained. They are disciplined in all three phases.”

Penn State, the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten, faces them in Glendale next week. The Nittany Lions are now 12-2 overall after their 38-3 playoff opener over SMU.

Of their team, however, Danielson specifically noted the defense, especially after they forced three more turnovers, two of which were pick-sixes. That along with two turnovers on downs in the first half against the Mustangs with four of the five leading to touchdowns for them.

“I mean, you’re talking about from the start of the game to the end? I mean, creating takeaways by their defense, I mean just started so fast,” Danielson said. “There was no work in the game.”

Danielson watched enough tape to know what Boise State will face on Tuesday inside State Farm Stadium. However, they are the ones they will now have to play with, with the first place in the semi-finals on the line for both.

“Sure, when you watch the film and you can slow down in your office, but even watching live? I think it was on full display for me,” Danielson said.
