Governor Abbott is leading the state’s emergency response ahead of severe weather

As Houstonians prepare for severe weather in the area Thursday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has activated emergency preparedness measures across the state.

Govt. Abbott has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to be prepared to use the state’s emergency response resources to help with the severe weather facing the eastern part of the state.

“Texas is prepared to deploy all necessary resources to help local officials respond to severe weather threats,” Governor Abbott said in a news release announcing the weather. “As Texans and out-of-state visitors begin to travel after the Christmas holidays, it is critical that everyone regularly monitor road conditions, create an emergency plan and follow the guidance of state and local officials. I thank all emergency responders for their work this holiday week as they help their fellow Texans during these storms.”

The National Weather Service has reported that severe thunderstorms are expected across the state on Thursday. These storms carry the risk of heavy rainfall, large hail, strong winds and even tornadoes.
