In a statement, a spokesperson for Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport confirmed the incident to PEOPLE, adding that while the incident briefly halted some operations in Terminal 4, it has since been “resolved” and most operations are back to normal.

The spokesman declined to comment on the airport’s gun policies, instead referring inquiries on the subject to Phoenix police.

Sergeant Mayra Reeson of the Phoenix police tells PEOPLE that the attack took place outside the TSA area, in an unsecured location accessible to the public. Anyone with a legally owned firearm in the state can gain access in the unsecured area, she says.

Sore Fox 10 PhoenixReeson said, “I don’t recommend bringing guns to an airport.”
