Body found in plane’s wheel well at Maui airport

KAHULUI (HawaiiNewsNow) – An investigation is underway after a person was found dead in the wheel well of a plane at Maui’s Kahului Airport on Christmas Eve.

In a statement, United Airlines confirmed that a body was found Tuesday after Flight 202, a Boeing 787-10, arrived at Kahului from Chicago.

The body was discovered in the wheel well of one of the plane’s main landing gear, the airline said.

“The wheel well was only accessible from the outside of the aircraft. At this time, it is not clear how or when the person gained access to the wheel well,” United Airlines said in a statement.

“United is working with law enforcement on the investigation,” the statement said.

Maui police are also investigating but have not released any details.

Government officials said operations at the airport were normal and not affected by this incident.
