Brian: How are you enjoying your first Christmas concert?

Sam: It’s fantastic. Everyone is in good spirits and excited and having a great time. I haven’t done many other conventions, but I know they can have people jockeying for everybody’s autographs and stuff, but this one, everybody’s really relaxed, really happy.

Brian: Any chance to catch up with former castmate Cameron Mathison (Ryan)?

Sam: Yes. We drove in the van on the way here from the hotel today and talked. It was great to see him!

Brian: Have you had any soap fans come up to you today and say they’ve been fans since you were on AMC?

Sam: Yes! There’s been some people who have said, ‘I’ve seen you since AMC,’ so we kind of started a relationship with fans that also cross over into the Hallmark world, so that’s pretty good.

Brian: Do you have any holiday traditions?

Sam: We watch a horror movie on Christmas Eve. My sisters and I started doing it and my wife jumped in when we got married. She loves it too, so it’s very cozy. I can’t explain it and I don’t know where it came from.

Brian: Do you have any New Year’s resolutions?

Sam: Well, I just had surgery on my ankle. It had been a few years of various injuries and something finally clicked in there, literally. So I got that fixed and that is to diligently go through rehab to the physical therapist and get it back to how it was 4 years ago. God will.

Brian: What is the recovery time for it?

Sam: It’s 2 weeks in this boot, and then it will be 6 to 8 weeks of physical therapy, then I’ll be dancing the Nutcracker Suite! (laughs)
