Bill Skarsgård told us how he used the bathroom while filming ‘Nosferatu’

Happy Nosferatu Eve, ladies and gentlemen. At long last, director Robert Eggers’ reimagining of the classic Dracula story coming to cinemas across the country for Christmas. You know what that means, right? All of the interviews – from people like Eggers, Nicholas Hoult (playing Thomas Hutter) and Count Orlok himself, Bill Skarsgård– finally sees the light of day. And they are pretty crazy.

They include, but are certainly not limited to: Hoult admits that he has Count Orlok’s prosthetic cock “framed at home” (?!?!), Eggers detailing the intricacies of training hundreds of rats, how to behave, and Skarsgård tells us exactly why it was so easy to take a dump while in costume. Vampires shit too! On the occasion of our Cover story for summer 2024 which starred the 34-year-old actor, we asked him in a video interview how he handled Orlok’s claws in between takes.

“Well, drying my ass,” he said, laughing. “These pieces were very easy to take off. The only thing that was easy to take off was the fingers. So I could take them off between takes – if I had to go to number two.”

Look, guys. A mystery solved. By the way, I’m only making light of Skarsgård’s Orlok because I only have a week left to watch Nosferatu-and he is just as terrifying in the role as advertised. I won’t spoil anything for you, but Skarsgård’s take on the monster is beyond disturbing: the voice, the mug, and yes, even the dick.

“I was so terrified,” Skarsgård added when he first saw Egger’s spin on Count Orlok. “Robert Eggers showed me the shapes and kind of the direction of the character, and I’m like, ‘That doesn’t look anything like me.’ And I was really worried that I couldn’t do this face, but in the end it looked great.”
