First Look at Lady Gaga in ‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Goes Viral (But It’s an AI Fake)

Earlier this year, shortly before the second season of Wednesday wrapped film, Entertainment Weekly broke the news that Lady Gaga would participate in the show’s second season. The anticipation of seeing her in full Wednesday party has naturally excited fans. Their response was apparently met over the weekend, with social media abuzz with a circulating photo of Lady Gaga in Wednesday S2. Unfortunately, the image is an AI fake (albeit a very good one).

The picture X arose (where it has amassed over 1.5 million views). The author confirmed that they used AI to generate the image artificially.

It was then shared widely on a Netflix-inspired fan page on Facebook run by GAMURS Group (the company that runs brands like Dot Esports, Gamepur and WeGotThisCovered). GAMURS Group uses the page to drive traffic to its WGTC Netflix tag page. The post went live on December 13 at 14:30 GMT and has total over 67,000 likes. It reads: “First Look at Lady Gaga in WEDNESDAY Season 2!” suggests that the image is actually from Wednesday season 2.

An hour later, another site, Flix & Chill, shared the photo with the same caption. Their post has collected over 72,000 likes. We also found the image circulating on Instagram and X.

In the photo in question, Lady Gaga is seen looking directly at the camera in a black outfit with curly hair. It looks similar Wednesday, given the landscape (even mixed with a bit of Bridgerton)but the picture is not real.

Netflix did not release any press releases for Wednesday season 2 at the end of last week, when the first actual was still revealed by the streamer December 4thwith Jenna Ortega as the titular character.

So what happens? Unfortunately, the image in question is AI generated. We used several online tools that detect artificial art and images with one tool, SightEnginethat says the image is 93% AI generated and states that it uses a stable diffusion model to be created (see proof below)

Of course, fake stuff circulating on social media isn’t exactly new. We’ve reported dozens of times about websites and social media accounts that intentionally post inaccurate details about release dates. Still, the rise of AI images (that look as good as the above) will increase in the coming months and years.

Netflix confirmed to us in an email this morning that the image that has been circulating “was not released by Netflix and is not from Wednesday S2.”

We contacted the operator of Netflix Updates yesterday, but they have yet to respond to a request for comment on why they are sharing this fake image. The owner of Flix & Chill, run by MEWS MEDIA PRIVATE LIMITED and Manish Jalan, declined to comment but said it was fan-made, although the description suggests otherwise.

Of course, we’ll have the first look at Lady Gaga on Wednesday Season 2 as soon as Netflix releases something official.
